Before the weather gets unbearably hot (as we know it will in the TX summer) get outside with your toddler or preschooler and go on a fun family picnic! While the idea of having small children in wide open spaces may sound too exhausting, you can eliminate some of the stress with good planning. Anytime you leave the house with your kiddos, a great rule of thumb is to keep the outing as simple as possible. Cramming too many activities into one afternoon can lead to grumpy children and an exhausted mom.

    1. Location, Location, Location – When deciding where to picnic start by doing it at a familiar place. You could even start in your own backyard or at a friend’s house. Being familiar with your surroundings will give you peace of mind to be able to enjoy yourself. Once your kids are older or whenever you are more comfortable, venture out to a local park or zoo for your picnic festivities.

    2. Bring a Friend – Children almost always do better when they have friends to play with. Even introverted children appreciate the company of another child to play with outside. Being outside is the perfect place to spark imagination so having a friend explore with your child makes it even more fun! Plus, having another adult to watch the kiddos means you will have a chance to talk to a grown-up and have another set of eyes looking out for your child as you look after theirs.

An Easter Egg Hunt can be a fun event for the whole family, but did you know it can also be an educational opportunity for your child? Here are six creative ways your child can learn through an egg hunt:

    1.Toddlers Can Learn Colors

Before letting your toddler loose to find as many plastic eggs as possible, tell your toddler only to collect a specific color or colors of eggs. This will help your toddler distinguish between different colors and make the game more challenging!

    2.Toddlers Can Learn Shapes

If you’re creating your own egg hunt, fill plastic eggs with different shaped objects. After the eggs are all found, reward your child for naming each of the shapes found in his or her eggs.

    3.Preschoolers Can Learn Numbers

If you’re creating your own egg hunt, use a permanent marker to number the plastic eggs before hiding them. Challenge your children to find the eggs in order from 1 to 20, or 1 to 100 if you’re that ambitious!

For the rest of the ways your child can learn through an egg hunt, read the full article here: What Your Child Can Learn From An Easter Egg Hunt

Is your child’s back talking becoming a problem? Are you tired of hearing “No! You do it!” from your toddler or preschooler? There may be something you can do to help curb those annoying, whiny, temper tantrums.

Instead of responding by saying “You’ll do it because I said so” or “Don’t ever talk to me like that!” there are other ways to help your child learn to disagree with you respectfully. The best way to stop back talk is to provide your child with some independence – but within your own limits. Kids of all ages need a sense of personal power to make their own choices and express their differences in opinions with parents. When parents make all the decisions for them, children naturally want to lash out, and so they do — with words and sometimes, physical aggression.

So how can parents teach their children to disagree respectfully? Read the full article here: How to Stop Back Talking Without "Because I Said So"

Allow us to demonstrate how our services exceed that of ordinary daycare, as we share invaluable insight into your child’s early weeks of brain development.

    Learning about the world

Learning about the environment is the sensorimotor stage of a child’s brain development. Your child will begin to interact with the world through touch, smell and even taste. You will observe your child utilizing the mouth, as an advanced tactile tool, to feel objects and understand shape, density and tangible differentiation. Allow your child to experience a variety of materials, shapes and colors to encourage learning about the world, as early as possible.

    Learning about the self

Once your child is mobile you can joyfully begin to observe how the child will be able to interact with the world, in a variety of ways. You can expect many new experiences for both you and your child. The child will experience and exhibit knowledge about the environment, and how he or she fits in, and is a part of it. Encourage your child to explore and interact with everything at a young age. Providing a safe environment, like public parks or open fields, your child will learn as much as possible at a comfortable pace.

Most parents want the potty training stage to go quickly and successfully. It is during this phase of infant development when parents need to teach their child how to safely and independently use the potty. Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Katy, Texas helps make this process easier by providing some insights into potty training.

    Readiness

When your child is ready to start using the potty, there are a few signs that you can watch for. These include raised interest in the potty and how it is utilized, questions or conversations about the potty, as well as your child exhibiting more control over bodily functions. Once some of these signs become apparent, you can start providing your child with opportunities to learn about the process.

    Reward

If you want to promote independent potty usage, offering some small reward for potty time can be an effective idea. These rewards can be as simple as reading your child’s favorite storybook together, a sticker, or a watching a favorite movie. To encourage progress, be careful not to overdo the rewards factor.

    Routine

Promote a routine so your child can know generally when it is time to go potty each day. This will assist in setting routine bowel movements and will get him or her used to going at regular intervals on a daily basis. Just remember that each child is unique and that potty time should never be forced upon a child who is not ready.

It is this kind of insight into real child care issues that differentiates Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Katy, Texas, from other day care facilities. Trust us to provide your infant or toddler with the ideal care. Contact us here for more details about our infant, toddler or preschool services.

childcare_katy_txSummer camps are now open for registration and that equals a multitude of choices for your child and how they will spend their time away from home.  As a parent, here are some valuable tips for choosing a summer holiday experience that your child will love.

    1. Is your child ready for summer camp?

Many camps are available to children of preschool age and older.  If this is your child's first time at camp, sleepaway camps can be a little scary. We offer a daily summer camp that is conveniently located at our Learning Academy, and great for both children and their parents. This gives your child a camp experience in a familiar environment, filled with friendly faces and no homesickness! A weekend family excursion to Dinosaur Valley State Park and indulging in some fun camping activities will help your child get excited about summer camp, if they are a little anxious.

    2. What is the camp theme?

Many camps have a specific theme which is carried through each camp activity. Such unique themes as football, chess, or technology camps are popular.  More traditional themes include a combination of physical activities and arts and crafts while also making new friends. Most children enjoy a traditional camp experience that offers a wider range of activities, which will help introduce your child to new interests. With a broad variety of rotating activities, there is certainly no time for boredom!

    3. What do you want your child to get out of the summer camp experience?

Some summer camps focus on letting your child have fun, while others offer a more educational approach that encourages them to develop new skills and talents outside of the classroom or home. These camps assist your child to develop both social and motor skills, while teamwork and leadership abilities allow them to grow and succeed in life. The ideal combination is a camp that combines learning and fun in a way that allows the children to experience the excitement and joy of summer camp activities while continuing to develop their minds.

    4. Who is running the summer camp?

When choosing a summer camp, a great reputation and plenty of experience is the key. It is essential that your child is safe and fully supervised while they are away from home. Inquiring with camp organizers about their activities and the staff-to-child ratio is important. If your child has any health issues that need to be managed by staff, it is essential to ask if they have the capabilities and trained personnel to keep your child both healthy and happy.

At Kids 'R' Kids Learning Academy of Katy, Texas we offer a leading, exceptional quality daily summer camp for preschoolers through 12 years of age. Our 2014 theme encompasses exploring nature, learning about different ecosystems and getting active, all while also building incredible memories!
